As part of the 25 Years of Margate Soul Weekender year-long celebration, we present an intimate midweek moment with one of the most compelling soul voices of this generation. Truly life-enriching soul music is an indomitable force of nature. No matter what sub genre our current crop of musicologists may cite in the very near future to describe Jalen Ngonda’s riveting approach, he’s unequivocally a gifted songwriter and artist, blending classic and contemporary soul influences to create a sound that’s all his own.  Since the release of his critically acclaimed debut album "Come Around And Love Me " in 2023 he has swiftly followed it with a string brand new singles, (as well as collaborations with Gorillaz and Jordan Rakei), as an artist who writes songs every day, its a natural thing to keep fresh music coming out. Jalen has caught the attention of the likes of Jill Scott,Kehlani and Olivia Dean, as well as Elton John, who predicted that “he is going to be a huge star”.  He has appeared on The Graham Norton show, and Later with Jools as well as playing sold-out tours in the USA, UK Australia and Europe recently having completed recording sessions he is constantly working.... His live show captivates and enthrals the audience with the pure musicianship of Jalen and his band. Music that may instil a nostalgia for the golden era of soul but from a very special artist that is very much of his time, a real once in a generation experience.
